Sasae tsurikomi ashi is one of the traditional forty throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. Sasae tsurikomi ashi belongs to the first group, Dai Ikkyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a foot technique, Ashi-Waza. [1]
With sasae tsurikomi ashi the uke is moving forwards — the throw ending up like a low hiza guruma. As uke steps forwards the tori blocks the ankle whilst making the same tsurikomi movement. The uke can draw the uke on to this foot, creating the ‘drawing’ interpretation of the technique.
Sasae tsurikomi ashi can also be performed with the tori’s foot staying on uke’s foot for a ‘propping’ interpretation. [2]
