Mae geri video
Info about "Mae geri video"
Mae Geri (front kick) is the most basic of the many kicks in karate. And it’s fundamental, used more than all kicks in karate, so it’s important a beginner knows it.
Steps
- Position yourself in a double “gedan barai”. This is a normal gedan barai with both arms slanting downwards to the sides of your body, almost like you’re pretending to be an aeroplane. It’s done so you can do the kick without losing balance and falling over.
- Begin by bringing your back knee up and forward. Try and make your heel and toes spring up in a simultaneous motion.
- Once your leg is up in the air, it’s time for the kick. Point the ball of your foot at the spot you want to aim at. This is the “Striking surface” and will do a lot of damage if it hits.
- Snap the leg forward at your target. While rolling your hips forward.
- Pull the leg and hip back and position in it’s original position. That’s all there is to it.
Tips
- All power in karate comes from the floor. As with any move, try to push your power from the floor.
- Speed and power are a dangerous combo in karate (for your opponent, not you)!
- Try to include both in you kick.
- Thrust from the hips. It gives you maximum speed impact.
